Episode 34: Embrace Curiosity
Curiosity leads to deeper connections with others, more innovation, helps you handle rejection, and builds your confidence.
Think about things you could have appreciated for a moment and forgotten about or ignored completely. Choose to give these things your attention. Intentionally put yourself out there and follow through.
This reminds me of the time I made a connection with a woman who complimented my dress at the train station (#inmymm @mmlafleur). I could have easily let it be just a nice compliment and gone on with my day, but I decided to get curious. I learned she was CMO at a global firm and we exchanged cards. Again, I could have easily let that be it. Instead I wrote her email to say it would be fun continue the conversation over coffee at some point and we ended up catching up for a breakfast that ranged from being a working woman/mother to finding friends as an adult.
You’re either nodding along or perhaps think this sounds a bit over the top.
Here’s the real reason I think it’s so important right now: I keep thinking about how much we might all feel even more supported in these challenging times if we were a bit more connected, if we knew others cared for us, and if we were able to share our joy with others.
Your One Bold Move: Get curious when you meet someone. Or get curious enough to follow up with someone you’ve already met before. See what comes out of the conversation or outreach. You’ll build your confidence, you might have a lovely chat with a kind person, or you just might land your next business deal or job.
