Your Guide to Gratitude at Work

Gratitude belongs at work—the little things and the big things. In addition to making work more joyful, it leads to results. In a Harvard Business Review article, Professors Francesca Gino and Adam Grant shared the results of an experiment where fundraisers who received personal thanks from their manager for their efforts and contributions increased their outreach metrics by 50%. Recognition and gratitude strengthen feelings of self-confidence and motivation; and reinforce sense of purpose.

This is the third in the series, One Bold Move A Day: Your Guide to Leading Yourself and Others. (You can find the rest of the series here.) This week we’ll learn about Gratitude at Work, featuring four episodes specifically tailored to show the importance of gratitude at work—and simple ways you can start sharing today.

Each episode is approximately six minutes, so you can get started on finding gratitude by investing in yourself less than an hour this week.

1. Episode 27: Gratitude Changed My Career and My Life

Practicing gratitude can positively affect your career, family, mindset, and mental health, as it has for me. This episode provides tips on how to bring gratitude into your life, in a few minutes a day.

2. Episode 84: Five Ways to Value Your Employees

As a manager, your goal is to create a positive, productive environment that supports team members. In a time when many of us are struggling with opportunities to connect to each other, tune in to hear easy and relatively inexpensive ways to make your employees feel valued and supported.

3. Episode 53: Noted

This episode is to inspire you to spend a little time each day thanking someone for how they are awesome or for something they did. Research shows you become happier on day one of this practice and you’ll feel more deeply supported if you do this every day for 21 days. The goal is to show gratitude, which has benefits to the recipient and the sender.

4. Episode 81: The Importance of Rituals

Rituals help people transition from one activity to another, mark a point in time, or transform a moment. They create a sense of unity, meaning, and connectedness. Right now when time feels so fluid and days blend together, rituals help us keep track of what we value. This episode shares tips on how to create new rituals in your life, including how to get started and how to create moments you’ll remember with gratitude.
